The Raleigh Bicycle Company, founded in 1887 in Nottingham, England, produced the Vintage Raleigh Sprite. One of the world’s premier bicycle manufacturers, Raleigh’s bikes were built to last. Different bike models carried the Sprite name over several decades. The 1960’s model featured a 10 gear system for men and a 5 gear system for women. The Sturmey-Archer hub was introduced in 1967. The company’s 1960 catalog listed the Sprite as a “custom made machine”.
A leather saddle type seat, whitewall tires and a front light bracket were common items to the Vintage Raleigh Sprite. Considered a touring bicycle, the Sprite equipment included water bottles and touring bags that could be clamped to the bicycle. Colors varied from matador red to Venetian blue with white accents.
